BadAss Movies of BadAssness: The Dark Knight Rises

I don't know that there's a better trilogy than Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight saga. What begins with the simple origins of the Batman, and continues with the tale of his fight with his most legendary adversary, and ends with all-out war in the streets for the soul of Gotham is quite possibly the most complete trilogy we've ever gotten but also, one of the best superhero/crime/action/whatever you want to label these movies as trilogies.

The Dark Knight Rises is badass because it adapts the breaking of the bat, it adapts No Man's Land, and it does it all pretty damn well in the context of the universe that it's in. Batman has been out of the game for 8 years. Bruce Wayne has been a shut in at his mansion for that entire time. Growing a beard, needing a cane to get around, Bruce Wayne is a shadow of the bat that he used to be.

Enter Bane.

The League of Shadows has been working around the clock with the help of other Gotham City millionaires and they've been pouring explosives all around the city in secret with the help of orphans in the sewers (it gave me animated series vibes when Batman has to go into the sewers and fights that one guys alligators to save some orphans). Can Batman stop a League that's acquired a nuke, made it mobile, and have it set to detonate in just 5 months? This movie is all out war. The cops have to form a gang, the prisones of Blackgate are let loose on the city streets to cause mayhem and or join up with The League, Scarecrow is the head of the court, Catwoman is in league with Bane and company to wrangle people to the courts, and Talia is heading it all up just enjoying toying with Batman's precious city.

The music of Hans Zimmer never disappoints and if you get a chance, on Spotify they have the Dark Knight Rises soundtrack, check out the Main Theme conducted by Hans Zimmer and featuring Lindsey Stirling and the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. It is some of the most beautiful music made for a movie, let alone a superhero film ever made. I could listen to it on repeat for several hours while just letting my imagination run amok at the keyboard (that may or may not have already happened a few times before this blog, and now that I'm thinking about it again...I guess I'll just hit play again.).

The Dark Knight Rises doesn't feature the best action sequences of the franchise. The Dark Knight most definitely has this film beat in that department, but, this film does feature some badass moments like the bat-cycle chase, the bat-wing flight, the all-out war between the police and the blackgate prisoners, the fight between Bane and Batman (both of them). It has a lot of badass character moments from Lucius Fox still getting in some one liners, to Alfred finally standing up to the insanity of his employer, to Catwoman getting in her licks and kicking some ass on the bat-cycle.

The Dark Knight Rises is the perfect end, to a perfect trilogy. A Batman saga, that is badass from start to finish. I believe all of the films are available on Max. You can find out more about the movie or any of the rest of the Nolan Batverse, here.
